What Are the Causes For Recurring Yeast Infections?
The causes for recurring yeast infections are well understood by modern science. The two most significant contributing factors are prolonged use of antibiotics and a poor diet.
Normally, the human intestine is inhabited by a wide variety of micro-organisms. This gut flora fulfills a number of vital functions in food digestion. It also helps to maintain a healthy balance between helpful and harmful micro-organisms. The use of antibiotics destroys the helpful bacteria in this mix, leaving the less helpful micro-organisms, such as Candida, to flourish.
Doctors tend to be overly eager to prescribe antibiotics for a wide range of ailments, but a side effect of fixing those ailments is the destruction of the gut flora. This creates an environment ripe for Candida overgrowth.
The second major factor in Candida overgrowth is a poor diet full of processed sugars and simple carbohydrates. Excessive consumption of sugary food promotes the growth of Candida yeasts. Also avoid foods high in other yeasts like bread, cheese and mushrooms for obvious reasons!
These are the main two risk factors for Candida overgrowth, but there are a number of other contributing issues. These other issues create fertile grounds for Candida by creating hormone and/or pH imbalances or by lowering the capabilities of body’s immune system. These are: Using birth control pills or synthetic estrogen Pregnancy and breast feeding Menopause Stress and insufficient sleep The use of corticosteroids Overconsumption of alcohol, smoking and recreational drugs Nutrient deficiencies and food allergies Insufficient or excessive levels of exercise Sexual transmission Diabetes HIV/AIDS infection If your life includes a number of these causes for recurring yeast infections, and you are struggling with the symptoms of Candida overgrowth, then you need to take action.
