Diet During Chemotherapy For Cancer Patients



People during chemotherapy need special food to support their treatment. But it is challenging because the patients will lose their appetite because of the drugs. Further, if the condition is not treated well, it will deplete the patient’s will to live.

Especially for cancer patient, they have to take energy food like carbohydrates and sugar. The reason is food rich with carbohydrates assist in releasing energy that the body needs. Protein from meat products will only slow down the patient’s digestive system so it is suggested to replace the food with liquid or powdered meal if they are hard to eat solid food.

However, some particular substances or food have connection to increase cancer cells. But this information cannot be released, especially about the kind of food that must be avoided. The reason is these reports still in studies which have not been validated in observational trial for human yet.

Some nutritionist said that boosting appetite is the major chances for survival. While the National Cancer Institute published a booklet suggesting the patient of cancer should take care their eating time by preparing snacks in order to reach it easily. Sometimes, the performance of food takes important role to make the patient’s appetite to try any kinds of food to supply the energy.

Next, water is all people needed whether they are sick or not. The chemotherapy procedure will reduce the flow of saliva significantly and cause the dry mouth. To solve the chemotherapy side effects, patient should have a sip of water every few minutes to help them swallow and talk more easily.

In some studies, the consumption of plant and coffee also influence to the developing of cancer. A plant-based diet and lifestyle changes result a reduction in cancer markers in a group of men with prostate cancer. These reports are studied in 2006 which the men were using no conventional treatments at the time.
