Chai Tea – The Healthy Alternative to Coffee



Chai Tea, also known as Masala Chai, has many healthy properties. This is due to the composition of Chai Tea. Below is a list of the common main ingredients and their benefits:

Black Tea is known for being high in antioxidants. Antioxidants are said to reduce free radicals thereby aiding healthy cell generation;

Cinnamon is said to lower cholesterol and is a source of calcium, iron and fibre;

Cardamom is said to aid digestive health and improve blood circulation;

Peppercorns are said to improve metabolism (assisting weight loss), aid digestion and prevent bacterial growth;

Nutmeg is known to have essential oils which stimulate the brain and reduce stress. Nutmeg is also known for its anti-inflammatory properties and is considered to be a remedy for stomach pain;

Chinese Star Anise is known for being a digestive aid. It is also used to extract acids which are used in the prevention of avian influenza;

Vanilla contains essential oils which have anti-oxidants, anti-carcinogenic and anti-depressant properties. Vanilla is said to be an aphrodisiac however the quantity in Chai Tea may not be enough for sexual arousal.

The ingredients demonstrate that there are many health benefits in each cup of Chai Tea, however, how does this compare to a cup of coffee?

Coffee is said to have variety of benefits. It is said to increase metabolism, prevent diabetes, prevent Alzheimer’s and improve cognitive function.

On the downside coffee is known for leading to dehydration, dizziness, cold sweats and drowsiness (after the initial high). Coffee consumption may also lead to iron deficiency anemia in mothers and infants. As such it is suggested that coffee intake should be moderated.

On the facts it is undeniable that Chai Tea is a healthy alternative to coffee!
